Recipe writing is an art. Here are some tips on how to write a good recipe.
The first section must include the following:
Know your target group or stakeholders – what do they want in terms of dietary requirements, like, dislike, serving size, preference for ingredients etc.
Use catchy recipe title – would your recipe title draw or invite your stakeholders attention or instantly tell them it is what they want.
Add a photo of what the product must look like
Add a recipe description – what is your personal take on the recipe? Descriptions could include flavours, suggestions for being a sport product etc.
List the preparation, cooking and total times it would take to complete making the outcome
Provide yield or serving size
The second section must include the following:
List of ingredients in chronological order – ingredients must be listed in the order they will be used with exact quantities in metric e.g. gram. with quantity going before the ingredient.
Spell out measurements and amounts accurately as this will assist with calculating costs.
Separate ingredients for major steps and group in categories e.g. dry ingredients and wet or binding ingredients.
List the equipment list, if unique e.g. food processor, baking dish etc.
The third section must include the following:
List steps in order – Keep instructions short and to the point.
Give specifics about doneness e.g. if baking – bake until golden brown
Include storage suggestions
The fourth section must include the following:
List variations for someone with gluten, egg or lactose intolerance
Include nutritional information
